Nationwide — KMHF Email Builder

Generate ready-to-paste newsletter HTML from KMHF worksheet Google Docs. No coding required.

Before You Start

You will need:

No UTM spreadsheet is needed. All URLs should be final in the worksheet.
Use any modern browser. Google Chrome is recommended for the best experience.

1 Export Your Worksheet as HTML

  1. Open the KMHF e-news worksheet in Google Docs.
  2. Go to File → Download → Web Page (.html, zipped).
  3. A .zip file will be saved to your Downloads folder.
  4. Extract the zip file:
    • Windows: Right-click the .zipExtract All… → click Extract.
    • Mac: Double-click the .zip file. A folder will appear beside it.
  5. Open the extracted folder. Inside you will find an .html file — this is the file the builder needs.
For convenience, you can move the .html file into the drop-google-doc-html-here folder inside the builder folder.

2 Open the Email Builder

  1. Navigate to the builder folder on your computer.
  2. Double-click index.html. It will open in your default web browser.
  3. You will see the upload screen with a single drop zone.
The tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to the internet — all processing happens on your computer.

3 Upload Your Worksheet

  1. Drag & drop the .html file from Step 1 onto the drop zone labeled “KMHF Worksheet HTML”.
The zone border will change color and show the filename when accepted.
Or click the drop zone to browse and select the file.
  2. Click Generate Email.

The builder will process the worksheet and take you to the review screen.

Worksheet Format

The builder reads KMHF e-news worksheets with the following structure. Each worksheet produces one email.

Header Metadata

The builder extracts these from the worksheet tables:

Article Section Types

The builder detects section types from the article headings in the worksheet:

Banner / Full Width Section (Articles #1, #5, #7)

Full-width hero image with heading, content, and optional button. Article #1 uses a pink background; later articles use white.

Image Left & Text Right Section (Articles #2, #6)

Image on the left, heading + text + button on the right.

Get Involved — 2 Column Section (Articles #3 & #4)

Two side-by-side columns, each with an image, heading, text, and button. These are always paired.

Callout with Background Image

Centered text overlaid on a background image with a button.

Callout with Solid Background Color

Centered text on a teal (#24bdd3) background with a button.

Upcoming Events

A list of events with dates and linked descriptions.

Empty Sections

If an article section has no heading and no content, it is automatically skipped. You don’t need to delete empty sections from the worksheet.

Buttons Are Optional

If a section has no “Button Text & Link” row filled in, the section will render without a button.

4 Review Your Email

The review screen shows:

Metadata Card Subject line, preview text, send date, and number of sections detected.
HTML Editor The raw HTML code for the email body. You can edit it directly if needed.

Using the Preview

Click the Preview button in the top-right corner of the toolbar. A live preview panel will open showing the email with the full stationery wrapper — header, body content, footer, and social links.

5 Copy or Download Your HTML

At the bottom of the screen you will find two action buttons:

After pasting into Luminate, the stationery wrapper will provide the header logo, footer, social icons, and unsubscribe link. The builder only generates the body content.

Starting a New Build

Click New Build in the bottom-right corner to clear everything and return to the upload screen. You can then drop in a new worksheet and start fresh.

Tips & Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
“No article sections found” error Make sure the worksheet has h3 headings like “Article/story #1 (banner/full width section)”. The builder looks for these headings to identify each section.
Some sections are missing from the output Empty sections are automatically skipped. If a section has content but is missing, check that it has both a Heading and Message Content filled in.
Preview panel looks blank Make sure you scroll down inside the preview. The email may be below the visible area.
The drop zone does not accept the file Confirm the file has an .html or .htm extension. If you downloaded the Google Doc as a .zip, make sure you extracted/unzipped it first.
Date bar shows incorrect date The builder reads the “Send Date and Time” field from the worksheet. Make sure it’s formatted as “M/DD/YY at noon” or similar with a recognizable date.
Button URLs look wrong The builder strips Google redirect wrappers from URLs. If a URL still looks wrong, you can edit it directly in the HTML editor.
